Izzy's Custom Cages
At Izzy's, we build custom weld in cages and roll bars* for street cars, full fledged racecars or autocross competition. (*Unfortunately, we are no longer able to provide bolt-in roll cages, rollbars or complete kits of any kind. Pre-fabbed, weld in Hoops, Halos & lateral bars are available for you local to St. Louis DIY guys who want to source your own straight tubes and build your own pads).
In order to give you an accurate estimate for your cage, some measurements need to be taken for the main hoop, front down-bars and some general length, width and height measurements of your chassis. These measurements will help you figure out a ballpark figure for the amount of tubing required for your car. You will need to measure for the main hoop and braces and any diagonals that you want.

To get a quick estimate, you will need to provide us with some basic measurements of the Main Hoop, the down-bars, cross-bars and hoop braces. To do this, you'll need some tape measure, masking tape a pad of paper and pencil, as well as a buddy to help out.

First, the Main Hoop:

Now is the time to locate the optimum place for the Main Hoop to be located. Ideally, you want to look for areas that have some structure like rocker panels, suspension mounting areas, frame rails, etc. Be sure to keep in mind any seat adjustments that will be necessary after the cage is installed (especially important on street cars). On a street car, you'll probably want the main hoop somewhere near the middle of the "B" pillar (the metal between the side window and the small rear window).

Once you have located the area where the main hoop attachment points will be, place marks/tape on the floor on both sides of the car in approximately the same positions. At this point you can run a piece of tape from one side of the car to the other, going up the side of the car, across the headliner/roof and down to the other side. This will represent the Main Hoop for the rest of your measurements.

Measure the length of the main hoop using your tape measure and write it down. Measure from above the drivers head to the opposite sides pad as well as from side to side of the main hoop at about shoulder height (seated). Write those two measurements down and mark the tape where you measured the crossbar (important later).

Down-bars:

Locate the area you wish for the front down-bars attachment point to be located. Keep in mind whether you want the tube to go through the dash or in front of it. Look for areas that have some structure like rocker panels, suspension mounting areas, frame rails, etc. Mark the pad area with tape on both sides. Run a piece of tape from the Main Hoop to the A-Pillar and down to the front pad. Measure from the Main Hoop, over the door opening, down the A-pillar and to the pad point. Write that measurement down and multiply x 2 (for the other down-bar).

Cross-bars:

You're almost done! Measure from the top of the A-Pillar to the other A-pillar. That is the top crossbar ("Headache Bar"). Do the same along the dash for the "Dash Bar". These are ideally placed at the final bend in the down-bar. Write both of those measurements down.

Door-bars:

For a single door-bar, measure from the area of the main hoop horizontal crossbar (marked earlier), to the front down-bar about 1 foot above the attachment point. For an X door-bar, measure from the Hoop cross-bar to the down-bar attachment point, then from the dash bend to the Main Hoop pad.

Multiply both of those measurements x 2 for the opposite door.

Main Hoop Braces:

Again, look for areas that have some structure like rocker panels, suspension mounting areas, frame rails, etc. If these are in the trunk, make your best guess on where the tube will pass through the bulkhead/speaker-tray, and measure to that point. Then, from inside the passenger compartment, measure from roughly the same point to the top of the main hoop. Add those measurements together and multiply x2.

If there are any other tubes you would like to add, measure for them now. Once you have all of your tubing measurements, total them up. Multiply x $15 (average price of installed tubing).

Count the number of attachment points/pads and multiply x $40 (includes all pad materials).

Count the number of bends (main hoops typically have 4, front down-bars typically 2) and multiply x $25.

Add all of those numbers together and you will have a rough estimate of your cage cost. Email us the numbers and any questions you might have and we will confirm the estimate price for you!
