

The E36 318ti is quickly becoming a popular car for M motor swaps. With these higher horsepower motor swaps (with the potential for bolting on even more power), these cars have a few trouble spots that need to be addressed properly to keep the subframe crossmember from developing problems.




Swapped 318ti's, Z3's and M Coupes are known to have an issue with stress cracks and popped spot welds on the rear crossmember. We normally replace the factory crossmember with 2 pieces of 1.25x2.5" steel tubing, however, the owner wanted to add as much weight as possible in the rear so heavier tubing was used (and then filled with steel rod to increase the weight).
